System: Windows 10 Home version 21H1
New Laptop: HP laptop 17-BY1053DX (purchased Nov 2019)
Old laptop: ASUSW K52F-BBR9 (purchased Feb 2011 — 11 years old!!!!!!)

I have two laptops. The above HP which is relatively new and the ASUS that is 11 (!!) years old. Both are running Windows 10 Home version 21H1.

Interesting that the 11 year old ASUS laptop has been offered version 21H2 via Windows Update but the newer HP laptop has not been offered 21H2.

Does this make sense?

Should I just wait for Windows Update to offer 21H2 for the HP laptop or should I find a way to force the 21H2 update?

I am inclined to wait but interested in other opinions.

The ways of Windows Update are mysterious. It could be that the HP has some software or an older driver installed that is blocking the update.

Have you checked the HP support site for BIOS and/or driver updates?

You should make a complete image backup of the system before updating.

Are you running, or have you ever installed a third-party Windows Update blocking app?
Have you ever run Susan’s .reg file to hold you on a specific version of Win10? Or made changes to the Registry to prevent updaates/upgrdes?

When you go to Settings\Update ans Security\Windows Update:
Is your system on Pause?
At the top of the window, is there a notice “Some settings are managed by your organization“?
Check if Windows Update is functioning. Click on “View update history – Under Feature Updates, what was the last feature update and date installed? Under Quality Updates, what was the last Cumulative KB and the date installed?

To answer the above questions:

— I checked HP site – my HP drivers & other software are up to date

— Windows Update is working properly. I do get all new updates without a problem.

— Never installed Susan’s registry stuff

And the answer to the rest of the questions?….

If you type winver in the taskbar search and press enter, you can provide the complete Build number as well as the version.

Oh well…. Guess what? This was my fault. I checked the registry and found that I had set the version number at 21H1. I forgot that I had done this. My apology for submitting this question when all along turned out to be my fault.

in that case, remove or delete that TargetReleaseVersionInfo 21H1 registry entry on that HP laptop and reboot. the Win10 21H2 version should then be offered thru WU

Or change the Registry entry to 21H2 and Windows Update will take care of it.
(And don’t forget to change it again when you want to move on 🙂 )
