I’m running a dual boot Win 7 / Win 8 PC. Running Speedtest after booting to Win 7 gives me speeds of 17.87 Mbps upload / 4.2 Mbps download. Running the test again after booting to Win 8 gives me speeds of only 1.86 Mbps upload / 4.27 Mbps download. Do you know if something in Windows 8 can provide false data? My feeling is that the speed in Windows 8 is much higher than indicated.

How does the browsing speed seem to be? Much slower in W8, or about the same? If it seems about the same, then it probably is.

If it is slower in W8, you may have a bunch of stuff running (in particular, Browser Helper Objects) in W8 that isn’t running in W7.

Out of the box, Windows 8 is the 800# gorilla on the bus. It’s HUGE!

I tweak and tune everything, even my car, lawn mower, etc. So tweaking and tuning W8 for peak performance was nothing new to me. I started tweaking Windows with Win-95.
On most windows setups that I see (as a working computer tech) I can double the speed by just cutting out the BS and tweaking for better performance.

Now, I run XP, Win-7, Win-8 and even Win8.1 and I work the internet with all four, and I see no real difference in speed as to how fast web pages come up, etc.

        What does that mean?

Windows 8 disk space requirements are the same as Windows 7 (in theory and in practice): Windows 8 disk space usage vs Windows 7

We have a Windows 7 / Windows 8 dual-boot system. Testing at speedtest.comcast.net the results are nearly identical for both versions of Windows (Download approx. 34Mbps / Upload approx. 5.6Mbps)
