Is there a way to replace the M$ logo when booting up or shutting down with another picture?

Sure. I think all you have to do is replace logo.sys in your Windows directory with a bitmap of your choice, given the same name. However, for really playing around with splash-screens (on and off) get a tweaker called Tweak All 1.2.3 from my website at #11. Using this you can scan pictures to use directly from your scanner. (There is also a beta-version 2.0 available from their homepage. Just click the ‘book’ icon at #11).
If you just want to turn off splash screens, edit MSDos.sys appropriately (remove the Read Only attribute first).

Sorry – my website is reached by clicking the blue part of my sig line, so didn’t want #11 to be a hot-link. It actually refers to a position on one of my download pages, and not to the home site of the tweaker.
