How about those without intel bluetooth on their laptops? Is it safe for us to keep the update on our computer if we don’t got Intel Bluetooth on em?

Good :3 That’s all I wanted to know-I’ll download the update perhaps tonight before bed or saturday and then see about scanning for updates sunday or wednesday-I can also checked the 24th too, but not 26th or 27th-I don’t wanna be tuckered out when doing a night scan and updates-That’ss my birthday week-golden birthday on the 28th turning 28. 🙂

But I’ll keep my eyes peeled.

KB3168965 (security update for Windows kernel-mode drivers) installed manually prior to searching for updates indeed solves the problem of slow Win 7 WU (see comment 6 in https://communities.intel.com/thread/104414). In my case it took several minutes to find the rest of July updates (I have failed to find updates using WU before installing KB3168965 – restarted the computer after more than one hour of searching).
So, it seems that KB3168965 can be used instead of KB3161608.

Until MS releases a new update for win32k.sys.

MS just needs to release the WU-client-update as its own update, and not part of the roll-up.
But hey, that would be user-friendly, can’t do.

You are right. Unfortunately, KB3168965 is just a temporary solution…

It would be nice. Don’t want to install unclear cumulative updates. But as you said “that would be user-friendly, can’t do.”…

Also had wireless adapter problems, but don’t know which update, if any, caused the issue. Solved after re-loading the adapter. Did not remove the update and have had no problems.

It only knows who you are to show you your own message(before moderation) if you entered an email address.

That was my first impulse. Unfortunately with my issue I could not install, remove, or update the Intel Bluetooth driver software as the installer kept crashing with an “unknown error”. Only removing KB3161608 allowed anything to happen. I did see entries in a Google search saying the same thing, also with Thinkpads.

However since the Intel Bluetooth started to work again, I did not do any removing, updating or reinstall of the Intel software. I figured I would quit while I was ahead.

Best guess is that it is sub-update KB3163644.

Some of Intel’s older bluetooth services had issues with SEHOP and ASLR. Chances are this update poked a related setting. Now, if only we could uninstall specific updates to test, oh wait someone superglued them all together.

On the other hand… Intel, compile your software with a modern compiler that is fully compatible with modern exploit mitigation.

Maybe auto install drivers that microsoft guesses are “better” than what you have now is enabled.

(“better” can mean “doesn’t work” in many cases, especially when replacing customer OEM drivers with microsoft’s suggestions)

Sooooooo can SOMEBODY please clarify and simplify with me WHAT UPDATE TO install? DO I gotta install yet now I’m very VERY confused. Which one should I yet now I’m very VERY confused. Which one should I install? 3161608 or KB 3168965? Or do I install both-3161608 first and then 3168965 after? OR Install the first one and see how it works OR install the other. I’m very confused!

PLEASE IT’S MAKING MY head hurt! WHICH KB SHOULD I INSTALL to speed up windows update!

Intel has issued updated Bluetooth drivers & software (v19.00.1629) on 8/1/2016 that is recently compatible with the KB3161608 & KB3172605 update rollups for Win7 SP1:

Follow the instructions very carefully on that site in installing the new bluetooth drivers as well as re-installing either KB3161608 or KB3172605.

It looks like Intel released some updated drivers for some of their Wireless/Bluetooth adapters earlier this month.

The process states that if either the June or July Cumulative updates are installed on Windows 7, that they’ll need to be removed along with the previous adapter drivers before the new driver is to be installed.

Any Word on if the August Update KB3179573 breaks Bluetooth all over again?

On one hand, I like keeping my systems as patched up as possible but I’ve had to create an additional WSUS PC Groups to avoid deploying these Roll-ups to any of my users that actually use Bluetooth devices. I can’t wait until the monthly Roll-ups are the only updates available..
