I logged on to my Seven Semper Fi machine this morning and saw this: Remarkably, in both the notice here and in the info linked to by the “Learn More”

So which nag screen is this? Is it the one included in the recommended update that of course we all avoid installing or is it the one bundled in the December rollup? If it’s the latter then I thought that’s only supposed to be activated from January 15th onwards so if that’s the case then microsoft are again acting with suspicious intent and we should be aware.

Speaking of the nag screen being embedded within the December rollup, can anyone positively confirm the adware is also bundled in the security only rollup?

Please see this post. Or the Microsoft Support pages for KB4530692.

Thank you. I have read both the support pages and the blog thread but Microsoft’s support pages aren’t worth the digital paper they’re written on as far as I’m concerned and I could have sworn I read one of woody’s articles stating that the security only rollup didn’t include it so I just wanted some clarity.

The point is though, Microsoft are already gaslighting us when their support pages explicitly state that the adware doesn’t show up until January 15th. No wonder I don’t trust their own documentation.

I think what you read is that the Dec SO does not contain telemetry.

if you’re seriously thinking about buying a new Win10 computer, almost everybody will be fine with Win10 Home. That’s because Microsoft finally gave Home users the ability to pause updates

I will be getting a new computer with Win 10. After following this blog and the forums I was thinking about going Pro but Home may be enough.

With Win 7 Home I can turn off updates, uncheck items to prevent their installing and even hide updates. How much of this is still possible with Win 10 home? and with pro? Once we defer an update are we forced to download it later – previews and all?

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

With Home you have two lines of defense: Pause and wushowhide.diagcab. You can Pause up to 35 days, end the Pause whenever you like, but then you have to install all pending updates before you can pause again. You can hide updates with wushowhide.

With Pro, you have those two, plus deferrals (different from Pause) and Group Policy settings that keep updates from downloading until you say so even after the Pause or deferral time is up. Plus a whole lot of other GP settings.

Group Policy access is worth whatever extra you have to pay for Pro vs Home. This access allows you to set a multitude of settings under the surface.

I suggest your getting W10 Pro for this reason alone.

“…almost everybody will be fine with Win10 Home. That’s because Microsoft finally gave Home users the ability to pause updates…”

Except now you have to remember, every month, to tell your computer, in advance, to not install updates if you don’t want to risk it unexpectedly being temporarily useless.  That doesn’t sound “fine” to me, that is still several steps backwards.  The correct phrasing would be more like “for now, technically, Win10 Home will let users temporarily control updates, if they are very careful not to forget”.  It appears intentionally annoying and difficult, and specifically designed to make people give up.

That’s right.  If you don’t remember, updates happen.  Much less control with windows 10, than compared to 7.  I have not received any nag updates for 7 because for at least the past year or two, I have disregarded all non essential optional updates.  And back when they were forcing the nagware free 10 upgrade, I had specifically disregarded that one too.

Still waiting on information for whom I can contact as an individual user to purchase extended windows 7, 3 more years of service.  This article casts a shadow on my hopeful efforts in the coming few weeks.

If you know of a cloud solution provider willing to work with individual license users please do inform.  Thank you.

Going to have to mirror and backup and then constantly re install 7 or something.  Is that even possible?  How much trouble would mac be really?  Forced to use 10 is the most ridiculous thing microsoft has ever pulled.

My HP automatic update tool gave me a nagware too, tried to offer me half off new computers, claiming end of life on my current machine.  Sadly, my current machine outpaced the specs of just about every deal they had.  What a fraud, I bought this 2 years ago.

That’s KB4524752 nag, not the EOS one bundled with Monthly Rollup

I didn’t install KB4524752 nag; therefore, no nag screen.

      “buy a new Win10 machine”

      I have “a new Win10 machine”: Intel Z390 motherboard with i9-9900K, running W7.

So, if the intent was to sell new hardware; FAIL.
