Win7. Sleep Mode freezes went attempting to leave Sleep Mode………

Have not loaded the last 10 Win updates…This problem was not apparent prior to previous batch of Win7 Updates
Prior to install of Win7 (Win Vista) system worked Ok.

    Thanks

      Hi Bobm,

There has been some controversy over Windows Updates causing some problems for some people. Have you tried uninstalling the updates just prior to the sleep problem manifesting just to see if the problem goes away? Most updates can be uninstalled, although a few cannot. Also, do you have a restore point made just before the sleep mode difficulty that you could restore?

Is the problem on a laptop? The reason I ask is I had, and still have an issue with my Toshiba not coming out of sleep mode ever since installing Windows 7 on it. Sleep mode worked fine when Vista was on the laptop. After many attempts to tweak it and not getting anywhere, I tried hibernate mode instead and have not had any problems with that at all.

As suggested uninstalled “Windows Update” only and it cleared the problem. Now I have all the current updates along with this older one to install. If the older winupdate is installed in all probability it will cause the same problem again. What does one do in this case?

I used Restore and it only showed “Window Update ” no other info given. I usually only load one or two MS update at a time. I have not loaded this months updates will wait until given the word by Woody’s Defcon notification, so it would be the Jan “Window Update.” I did the update on 11 Feb.
          Automatic updates are turned Off.

I have had no end of trouble since automatically downloading the updates of 9th Feb. I have even gone to the extent of reformatting the hard drive in the latest attempt to get things running smoothly again. Firefox is prone to freezing and won’t run at all in Sanboxie and the crowning glory was the refusal to recognise the system image I had carefully stored to mitigate any such difficulties. Much cursing and swearing ensued. I have now switched off the automatic update function, which is a pain for a simple soul like me. If I can figure out how to run everything on Ubuntu, it’s looking increasingly attractive.

You might want to check to see if your system BIOS is up to date too, as some power management protocols are controlled from the BIOS settings, as well as OS settings/drivers. On top of that, check your system manufacturer for any possible driver/app update for power management, as this may fix some of the issues being experienced. Lenovo just released a new System Update tool, which helped with some of our ThinkPad’s, as it downloaded the latest drivers for Win 7, and they now sleep/hibernate fine now.
