    Hi, Woody.
    Great site and thanks you.

Looking at my installed updates it indicates 34 installed.
Among them is KB976932 sp1…but when I go to Windows Edition, I see only Windows 7 Ultimate.
Further looking shows build 7600. Yet I show windows activated along with the OEM product number.

PC works fine in all respects, but in reading your posts I see the possible risk of updating anything as Microsoft makes it difficult at times. Should I dig further or leave it alone. I certainly don’t want to have to start over with a new installation. I’m getting too old for that.

    Thanks for your help.

I had a blue screen on my new basic install of Windows 7 SP1 x64 home premium on my desktop. The only way I could get back to W7sp1x64 was to change from RAID to AHCI. Windows came right up, after reboot. I, previously, could not get any updates under RAID. When I changed to AHCI it started getting the updates (229)in a matter of 15 to 20 minutes. Then I could go to the thru them and install what I needed or wanted. This is the way it was before I had the major crash around Dec 1st. I backed up everything so as to have no losses. I I have now lost my keyboard and mouse function. They were 5years old. I purchased a new wireless mouse and keyboard combo.. Windows won’t turn them on. I found that the software program is no longer there. I am having lots of trouble negotiating mouse movements with the old USB keyboard. Anyone have any easier shortcuts? I And how can I get windows 7 sp1 x64 home premium to work right again?

I am going to guess the problem is in the drivers for the h/w. Go to the manufacturer of the keyboard’s website. Enter the model mumber. Download and install the Windows 7 drivers.

I changed from RAID to AHCI and my windows 7 sp1 x64 came back up, then 5 days ago later my wireless keyboard and mouse disappeared. everything else is in place. I just have
a bad time using an old USB keyboard as a mouse, to get around.

I will try to reinstall the software to the Microsoft mouse and keyboard combo.

Maybe this link can be useful,
      http://www.wikihow.com/Use-Your-Computer-Without-a-Mouse

There were reports that KB3172605 bricks Bluetooth connections, eg for wireless keyboards and mouse.
Win 7 auto-drives/runs most USB keyboards and mouse. Windows Update auto-installs any missing drivers for devices. Maybe yr USB keyboard and mouse are faulty = try another USB keyboard and mouse.

99% of the time that’s precisely the problem.

Tried new wireless keyboard and mouse got same results. Tried install of intelliport 7.0 from disc it said newer version already on computer. Am going to try to find the newer version via my keyboard and put it back into startup. Maybe this will work. Let you know!

I’m still struggling to install SP1, however using Belarc Advisor, it’s telling me this….

EOL-MICROSOFT~WIN7 End of Life Microsoft Windows 7 RTM is vulnerable and no security updates are provided by the vendor.
My validated Win7 Ultimate is working well and the only update showing as available is SP1 and although I have gone through all the iterations that MS offered, it will not install. If not for the possible vulnerability, I wouldn’t care. I use Firefox exclusively so IE is not a worry. I recently upgraded to Win10 but discovered that at the present time it’s not for me…maybe never. I went back to my Win7.

      Thanks..

To tell if you have SP1 already installed:
        Click Start
On the right side of the menu RIGHT click on Computer
        Choose “Properties” at the bottom
On the screen that pops up, the information will be at the top.

If is says SP1, don’t worry about that update.

I think that it would be prudent to go to MS catalog a see if there is a specific SP 1 to install onto Win 7 Ultimate `build 7600.  Not sure if it matters but it worth a try. And try to find it using Google Chrome.  I have better results.

      Thanks for your reply.
Actually I already understood what you wrote but my question was since it is working fine should I leave it alone or what might the risk be if I install SP1 again?
Woody keeps cautioning about casually updating what Microsoft offers and the problems they might cause.
So, although my update history shows I have KB976932 SP1, I don’t actually have it?

      thanks again

6.1 build 7600..licensed to me….nothing else, but I show under installed updates that KB976932-SP1 as well as many others are installed.
