Perchance has anyone discovered a way to use the CANOSCAN FS4000US on a WIN7 64 bit machine? What about on a WIN7 32 bit machine?

Have you checked for Windows 7 32 and 64 bit compatible drivers for your printer? Canon’s support site should be able to verify whether the printer is Windows 7 compatible.

If you find it is not Windows 7 compatible, you might check for Vista drivers. If the printer is Vista compatible, those drivers may offer some useability for you.

Canon only shows drivers up to Vista for this printer. The Vista drivers are worth trying. The worst case, they will not work and you are no further behind than you started. Printer manufacturers seem to loose interest in updating drivers for new OS’s more than any other device. The site does not differentiate between 32 Bit and 64 Bit.

I can not find a newer driver either.

I have a CanoScan LiDE 500F. It works with the CanoScan Toolbox and the http://www.hamrick.com/index.html program. But with both programs (only one installed at a time) I have to uninstall drivers, reboot, reconnect every time I want to use it. I found a file named oahuLLD_log.txt in my C:Temp directory that just grows and grows and grows and grows if my scanner is attached. It does not have to be in use just plugged in.

I think we are both the victims of planned obsolescence.

Linus, unfortunately printer/scanner manufacturers are slow/never develop drivers for newer OS’s. HP seems the worst, but they all do it. This is their way to as you say “planned obsolescence”. They want you to buy new.

By the way Linus, how remiss of me, Welcome to the Lounge as a new poster. I cannot believe I did not welcome you previously. Must have been having a senior moment.
