A slew of 40 Win XP Security updates turned up on 16JAN22, ready to install
on my ancient Win XP machine…Are these The Genuine Articles ?

By the KB numbers, those aren’t new. I’d suspect it is more likely that a (recently?) installed/updated third party software title made changes to system files (e.g. to older redistributed versions), and Windows Update is just offering those to change the files back to the latest versions.
Thanks for your quick and considerate reply.
Since the Win XP Security Updates notification appeared after I rebooted the XP machine,
and there was a pop-up reminder from Adobe to update their Acrobat Reader product,
this might perhaps have triggered the Win XP 2022 Updates notification ?
Any other similar cases you recently heard off ?

Either a new install of something, or Microsoft reindexed something in updates.
