What’s with Win Update? On my Win7Pro desktop I have it notify me than I can download them and apply them one by one. And copy them to a USB drive and apply them to my wife’s laptop.

This month’s Update offers up 9 .Net updates one of which goes back to 2012. Others are in 2013 but in past months. These are not duplicate files (based on the KB number) to past .Net updates that I have applied as offered. MS Bradley’s latest column makes no mention of this situation.

Some months back MS changed the format of it monthly security bulletins. I used to be able to open it up and follow the links under the affected software heading and find links to most if not all the offered updates. Now only a couple of KB’s can be found that way. Now I have to search the download area for the rest of the indicated updates ( 5 out of 17 this month).

And a related rant: When searching for a KB it seems MS indexes them in three different formats:
    KB2900986 or KB 2900986 or KB 290 0986
So if the first search doesn’t produce results one has to try the other two formats.

      But wait there’s more!

Three of the updates this month when located on MS download pages only offered a 32 bit version ending in x86.msu (after going through the validation check). Usually 2 or 3 types are offered and the one I need ends in x64.msu or exe. But when I used Update and check only that particular update to download and install, all works well.

There are also a great many “security” updates for the .NETs as well as just plain .NET updates.
