Win Media Player Crash Error

I am still fairly new to win 10. I was Googleing for a media player and discovered that Windows Media Player had come pre-installed on my computer. I know a lot of people like something different but I like it OK and since it was already there I started using it. I had no trouble transfering music from my Win 7  computer and everything worked fine. I check the Reliability Monitor periodically and was surprised to learn that every time I shut down Media Player it was recorded as an app crash in Reliabilty Monitor. It does this no matter which way I shut down Media Player: Click on “stop” and then click “x” for shut down, Click on “x” for shut down without first Clicking on “stop” or just opening Media Player and then clicking on “x” to shut down without ever playing music. Attached is the error report from when I shut down by clicking”x” without ever playing a song. My Computer is  a Dell Optiplex 9020 refurbished by Joy Systems. It is 64 bit,  version 1909 originally 1903 This is no big deal but I like to keep the line on the Reliabilty Monitor recording a straight line up as high as it will go. I am not too well versed in the more in depth error reports and codes so any help is welcome. thanks/CT47

Thanks for your help. You are right, there is a lot of information at that link. I will try the suggestions that I think will apply. This is a strange problem. Media Player works just fine: plays music with no hic cups or actual crashes while open. Even on shut down everything seems fine. But when you check Reliability Monitor it shows an app crash at the exact time Media Player was shut down. Sort of makes you wonder if the problem is actually in the Reliabilty Monitor itself. Don’t have a lot of spare time for the rest of the week but If I find anything I will let you know.  Charles

Charles again. I used the trouble-shooting guide and checked for .dll files and other files the article said were not comptable with WMP but did not have any of them on my computer. I tried some of the other things that the article said to check on but nothing helped. I googled ” Windows Media Player crashes on shutdown in Win 10″. After following some links I came to this one:”https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17615“. It suggested to re-install WMP. I did not know you could do that. Since it is not on the installed programs list I assumed it was integral to the Win 10 operating system and could not be messed with. Found out it is considered to be a feature. Anyway I followed the proceedure  and now WMP is working correctly. I have shut down using various methods and so far there are no WMP errors recorded in Reliabilty Monitor. I did check the before and after version numbers and they are the same. I was connected to the internet when I did this so I do not know if I got a new version or a local copy on my computer. for some reason the link did copy and paste right. here are the instructions:

1. 1. Click the Start  button, type features, and then select Turn Windows features on or off.
   2. Expand Media Features and see whether the Windows Media Player check box is selected. If it is, clear the check box.
   3. Click OK and then restart your PC. This will remove your current version of Windows Media Player.
   4. After your PC has restarted, repeat step 1.
   5. Expand Media Features and select the Windows Media Player check box.

Click OK and then restart your PC. This will reinstall the latest version of Windows Media Player for your system (Windows Media Player 12, with a few exceptions).
