Re: Fill a range of cells with related data such as days of the week and months of the year.

First type January into a cell. Now select the cell and position your pointer over the bottom right hand corner of the cell so it changes to a small plus symbol, grab it with your mouse and start dragging. I should get the months of the year, but I just get January repeated.

    What am i doing wrong?

Go to Tools, Options and select the Custom Lists tab and check to see if there is an entry for the lists you want to autofill. If not you can add your own lists.

      Hope that helps you out.

In addition to what Andrew said, make sure you are spelling January correctly. Also try right clicking on the fill handle and dragging it down. When you release the right button, click on Series in the pop-up menu.

It’s quite simple actually – you’re simply telling XL to repeat the contents of the cell without giving it any reason to change as you go along. Type February in the next cell, then select *both* cells, grab the + and drag – now it knows you want to increment by months and it does so. cheers

If you drag the fill handle with your right mouse button, you’ll get some options to choose from as soon as you let go of the button.
