I had to replace my Win 7 PC with a new one from Dell in preparation for Win 10. I’ve run into some problems that System Recovery cannot fix. In Dell’s “infinite” wisdom is not possible by changing boot order so that I can boot from a recovery/repair disk. The BIOS change of boot order has been changed so that you does not (at least I couldn’t overcome it) allow boot from a optical drive (that option is in parenthesis and “items in parentheses are not bootable”. There is, however, allowing bootable USB use (first in the order of system boot priority). I speculate that Dell wants you to use their recovery/repair software.
My question is if you can prepare a bootable USB for repair/recovery from an Microsoft’s repair/recovery disk? There are a lot of software about preparing a bootable USB on a web. Not knowing any of the players, I hesitate to glom onto the first piece of software use to prepare such a USB stick. In addition I couldn’t see any that specifically mentioned recovery/repair USB’s. Suggestions accepted graciously!

      Don,

I usedRufus to prepare a Win 10 upgrade boot disk when the Window Media Creation tool failed. Worked like a charm. HTH

Two questions – portable or non portable?
Is it better than isotousb, which is what I’ve used?

      Access,

Yes there is a portable version, see my link in previous post. Can’t answer the other question as I haven’t used ISOtoUSB. HTH

Sorry RG – I realise my question is ambiguous. I meant which is better? Presumably the non portable version from your answer!

        Access,

Can’t say as I’ve only used the installed version.
