I’ve had Win 7 (Pro) on a new and otherwise healthy computer for about 6 months now. I noticed a few weeks ago that “My Computer” is not displaying all the files in a folder (and the names of all the sub-folders). Sometimes I can see the files in My Computer but when I open an application, the open files dialog box can’t see all the files/folders. Winzip is the biggest culprit but I can replicate this in WordPerfect, Word, Excel, and other programs. Sometimes I can see a file in an application but it doesn’t show up in My Computer. I have a 1 Terabyte hard drive but haven’t been able to find any reference to how many files can be in a folder. None of these paths are more than 256 characters.
Does anyone know if there is a limit to the number of entries in a folder? When I moved some files to a subfolder, I could then see the remainder of the files in that folder, including ones that didn’t appear before I moved the files. There were less than 200 files in that folder and I could only see about 100 of them. I’ve never seen anything like this before and I’m at a loss to figure out what’s going on. I’d appreciate any tips.
Thanks in advance,
Jan
