Had to reboot this am and automagically win update appeared said I needed to check critical updates – first sent me to Office 2000 for something – which went ok. Then came back to critical update site – and said I needed a “Net” update – service pack 3 I think. I said ok – forgetting that I had never installed any of the “Net” stuff. Update proceded for a while and then appeared to be stuck – I went for coffee and came back and had to cancel out of the update. Retrying came back with an error message saying the update failed.
Do you think that it got lost because I had never installed the base stuff? I assumed that a service pack 3 would check before it started grubbing around – but you never know with MS.
As far as I know I have no need to ever install the Net stuff, but am worried that it will screw up further security updates.
Any ideas appreciated.
Tom
