Win 11 22H2 won’t install feature updates. This has been going on for months. It starts, looks like it’s going to work and then says something went wrong and rolls me back to the install that was done on 10/20/22.

I seem to remember that there’s a way to clean or reset Windows Update. But I don’t remember how to do it or if that’s the problem.

    Thanks

    Paul

There aren’t any additional feature updates after Windows 22H2 at this time, 22H2 is it.  What error message are you getting?  You can always do a repair install over the top?

It’s the Cumulative Updates that won’t install. They go to 30%. computer reboots and goes to 99%, then I get the message: “Something didn’t go as planned. No need to worry, Undoing changes. Please keep your computer on.” Then it rolls back and reboots and is fine, but I don’t think I have the Cumulative Updates. Others do install just fine; the security ones and the NET ones do too.

        Thanks for your help.

The cumulative updates are security updates.  What’s the KB number that keeps failing?

Type winver in the Taskbar Search Box and hit Enter.
Tell us what version you have (21H_ or 22H_) and the complete Build number (1904_.xxx)

      The windows version is 22H

      222621.1265

the update that won’t install is:

      2023-04 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5025239)

There is no error message. It installs to 30%, rerboots and continues to 99%

Then I get the message: “Something didn’t go as planned. No need to worry, Undoing changes. Please keep your computer on.” Then it rolls back and reboots and is fine

The version you have 22H2 22621.1265 is the February (2023-02) update. You haven’t had an update for the last two months.

Try this in an Elevated Command Prompt (type cmd.exe in the searchbar, right click on it and “Run as Administrator”):
chkdsk /f  (You will have to give it permission and restart. Note any problems it reports.)
        Log back in.
        DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
        sfc /scannow

        Try the update again.

Thank you for the suggestions. I did everything you suggested – twice. The first time SFC did find and correct errors, but the same thing happened as described above. So I did everything again. This time SFC did not find any errors.

Not sure where to go from here. Any more ideas?

      Thanks for the help.

I finally got around to using the Media Creation Tool to get the latest Win11. I had to choose not to get the updates on installation, otherwise I had the same problem.

After the installation, I did get some updates and installed them successfully. I had it check again and it had to get 2022-09 (KB5019311); now downloading 2023-04 (KB5025305). It appears to be working.

I should have just done this at the beginning, as you suggested Susan.

      Thanks for all your help.
