I’m new to ssd use. My samsung EVO 500gb ssd program, Samsung Magician, says not to use Windows File History with an ssd because it takes up too much room and there are too frequent write cycles. Is this really true? Seems strange to have this great technology that prevents me from using an important part of Win backup scheme.

    Thanks for any thoughts/work arounds.

You can happily use a normal HDD as the target, or live with the reduced life File History causes – it won’t be a huge reduction on a home system.
See this link about SSD life. http://windowssecrets.com/forums/showthread//165699-Interesting-Article-on-SSD-Durability

SSDs are normally used for the OS and HDDs for data (if you have two disks). I assume you’ve got an SSD for data – what have you got for the OS? In any case File History should be on a separate drive to the data you’re backing up – normally a USB drive.

Paul, you were up early this morning – oh I know, you couldn’t wait to open your presents!
