Today I checked the Reliability Monitor and found many unexplained daily Win10 updates (other than the daily Windows Defender security update). These have no KB#. The successfully installed ones do not appear in the Windows View Update History.
The PC is running Win pro v1909; the update settings are as described in PKCano’s AKB 20….16 which I would have been completely lost without. Pause updates is set to 0 days. I have been using this pc only since March 1; Feb & March 2020 cumulative updates have been installed.
The following are a sample of many unexplained updates over the past week.
Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following update: 9NG1H8B3ZC7M-Microsoft.MixedReality.Portal
Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following update: 9NZKPSTSNW4P-Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80073D02: 9NX51W9GBS5T-ScreenovateTechnologies.DellMobileConnect.
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80248007: 9N00JJ7S3L39-Microsoft.UI.Xaml.2.0.
Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x80073D02: 9NMPJ99VJBWV-Microsoft.YourPhone.
The following message must be for the Office 2016 update for the unactivated/unused trial version that came installed on the pc. There were about 10 of these Office 16 on the same date.
Installation Successful: Windows successfully installed the following update: Windows Installer reconfigured the product. Product Name: Office 16 Click-to-Run Extensibility Component. Product Version: 16.0.12527.20278. Product Language: 0. Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation. Reconfiguration success or error status: 0.
As I am new to Win 10, I am not sure why there is the constant daily updating – some successful, others not. I do not have the inclination or expertise to determine why many of the updates were not successful.
Is there a way to turn this updating procedure off – other than Defender? If so, should they be turned off?
Thanks for any explanations regarding this Win 10 behavior.
