WHS is not meant to handle general application loads. I don’t know if you can even install SQL server on it. It is meant to be a HOME server with a specific focus. There a limits on the number of workstations that can connect. See Introducing Windows Home Server for Microsoft infromation about WHS. I am thinking of using WHS instead of Windows SBS 2003. The main reason for using a cient/server sysytem is that the accounting system uses SQL and will not (according to the software house) run on a peer to peer network.

Will WHS handle programs running under SQL?

It’s all very well having a powerful backup built into WHS, but I still have to have an insurance requirement to make external backups.

Has anyone published a program that will backup the server to an external drive.

This sounds very unusual. SQL Server does not usually run on Workstations. People who need a SQL Server like database on a workstation usually use MSDE, or if they want something more interactive they use Access. Can you find a bit more information about exactly how this product is configured.

That defeats the point of having a client/server accounting application. It would mostly likely be that the database (with SQL Server) would be centrally hosted on the server. But that discussion is beside the point of WHS. WHS is not meant to be a domain controller in the traditional sense of a domain nor an application server.
