• Where to shortcuts get stored? (2000)

I’m sure this has been answered before, but I can’t seem to get the right words to locate the answer. I know there’s a file that stores email addresses that have been entered, so that when I start to enter a name, Outlook autofills it. And if I change a contact’s email address, that file doesn’t get changed, so I think I’ve completely removed the obsolete email from my system, but I type in ‘ric’ and mail goes to the obsolete address unless you’re more careful than I am. I also know that I can either edit that file directly and remove the obsolete item, or just delete the file and let Outlook rebuild it. Or am I incorrect about this and it’s that I can re-initialize the file but shouldn’t delete it?

So the questions are: what (and where) IS that file, how do I edit it or is it better to just delete it and can I do that in Windows Explorer? Thanks.

You’re looking for the “nickname” file, *.NCK. Shortcuts are different, and were in a ‘*.FAV’ file through Outlook XP. In a default installation, both files are in:

      C:Documents and SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftOutlook

This thread should answer your questions on editing the file.

(In Outlook 2003 the nickname file lives on, but shortcuts were moved into the PST.)

Thanks for the quick reply, John. All done and it was easy too. Once I started to download the ol2knick.exe from MS, I found that I already had the file. This time I decided to try to file the unzipped program in a location where I’d find it again, and when I navigated to where I thought that might be, there it already was from when I’d filed it before (C:WINDOWSApplication DataMicrosoftOutlook, for next time I need this info and think to look in my previous lounge posts).
