    Hi

I have been trying to update my anti-virus supplied by Zonel Labs but I keep getting server connection error, I tried visting their site, but I can’t load the site either.

Has anyone heard anything about these difficulties?

    Regards

    Braddy

      Hi Braddy

      Merry Christmas to you.

That is weird, I have tried to go to http://www.zonelabs.com[/url%5D and get site not found I then went to the Australian counterpart at http://www.zonelabs.com.au[/url%5D and got through

I did a DNS check and got this report http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/dnsreport.ch…in=zonelabs.com%5B/url%5D

This kinda stuff is always weird, isn’t it? Unlike Jezza, I just now tried to go to http://www.zonelabs.com and got through OK. Evidently it routed through to this address. Try this one and see what you get:

      http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp%5B/url%5D

Even weirder, I think it maybe a trans-Atlantic thing I have just done a tracert from the command line and it is

unable to resolve system name zonelabs.com

Must be a server issue in UK/England/[europe]

          Hi Jerry

It’s sound a bit serious, the funny thing is I have the Security Suite, it updates the Spyware but not the anti virus??

          Regards

            Hi Braddy

I would hazard a guess that the spyware and the antivirus software are coming off two different servers on the Zonelabs domain, these companies tend to have mirror sites so that you are directed to the closest download site available. I reckon there is a network issue.

I would allow a little time and retry, say 4 hours shrug

              Hi Jerry

I hope you are correct, only it’s been like this for a least 48 hours already.

Oh…..I thought you were going to say that, but it is weird that the USA can get it and not us shrug

              Hi Braddy

I have just done a sneaky IP thing where I pretended to have a Japanese IP address and I was able to get to the Zonelabs website. I think they are having problems with their DNS look up. I could not see anything on their support area…..sorry this is all I can report sad

              HI Jerry

Thanks for all the efforts, can’t even e-mail them to find out whats going on. Unless anyone know s the e-mail address.

              Merry Christmas to all

            Braddy

I returned to my computer this lunchtime and found the exact same thing –
            antivirus: “Error, could not resolve server”;
            antispyware “Up-to-date”.
No doubt they will sort it out.

              Hi John

It’s comforting that it’s nothing in my setting is causing this, if you have the same problem, like you say we will have to wait and see.

Thanks and Merry Christmas to all who replied to this.

I tried ten minutes ago; no good.

I tried just now, and the AntiVirus Update downloaded and was applied. So perhaps they’ve fixed the problem (which may perhaps have been associated with a security exposure on the ZoneLabs website, which I found on a non-Lounge forum)…

Using your link works great for me, but if I check for updates through the free program I get the site not found message.

I can’t get to them either direct at Zonelabs.com or through the various links within the program itself.
They appear to be completely off the air.

          Must be server troubles?

          • #1044627

Interesting. Things have become worse since this morning. I checked the links earlier today and they seemed to work (I don’t currently have Zonealarm installed so I couldn’t check to see whether it could auto-update). Right now, it seems to be totally off the air. Maybe they’ve been hacked?

This does not appear to be a new problem; here is a thread on the ZoneLabs support forum from December 12th.

As of June 2006, ZoneLabs used Computer Associates’ engine/signature files. If that remains true, it might be possible use download from CA. However, it’s difficult to confirm without access to the product or documentation. Anyway, if someone wants to take a look, eTrust signatures can be downloaded here: http://www3.ca.com/support/vicdownload/%5B/url%5D (some kind of registration is required). According to an old support thread, these addresses update in parallel:

            Official: http://avu.zonelabs.com/sigs/vet.signatures-xxxx.zip
            Unofficial: http://consumerdownloads-west.ca.com/myeTr…atures-xxxx.zip

To install manually, apparently you have to boot into Safe Mode and unzip to C:WINDOWSSYSTEM32ZoneLabs replacing the existing boot.dat and vet.dat files.

However, use the above at your own risk. Maybe it is better to install a 30 day trial of another AV until this storm blows over.

I have no problems getting to http://www.zonelabs.com[/url%5D from the Netherlands. Just like bigaldoc reports, it automatically loads http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp%5B/url%5D. No idea why it won’t work from the UK.
