OK, I had a messed up computer from Gateway. It is now several years old and I am surprised I did not have problems until now. When I first got it, it came with MS Office97 SBE installed. For some bizarre reason it was installed twice — in C:/MSOffice *and* in D:/Program Files/Microsoft Office. I have NO idea why, but it worked, so I never changed it.
I have gone through every upgrade and patch — Outlook98, SR1, SR2a, etc. and I have had very little problem — until the most recent patch (RTF Template Macro). NOW the two versions of Office are in conflict and it was not possible for me to update. The patch thought I was at SR1 level, yet all my programs say SR2 in the Help|About box.
I verified that the Program Files version was the most recent, and then I compulsively moved ALL of the other files into the corresponding and matching folders — being very careful to save the most recent version of each file.
I then went through the registry and found EVERY entry for the MSOffice directory and I correctly altered them. I also checked Win.ini and System.ini.
Excel and Outlook98 work find. However, when I open Word I get this warning:
/! Error. The wrong wwintl32.dll has been loaded. Make sure that the Word directory is in the path.
WHERE is this being loaded from? I cannot find a reference to it in the registry. The file is presently in C:/Program Files/Microsoft Office/Office — like MANY of my Word files are. How do I make sure the Word directory is in the path?? Thanks.

Hmmm… I found this:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/ar…s/q172/7/65.asp …but it is NOT quite the same message. I think there is NO way out except to reinstall Word and re-run ALL the updates!
What do I need to SAVE to keep my Toolbars and customizations?
