The anniversary update of August 2nd is version 1607 right? My PC version is still 1511 and it’s August 12? Anyone else still on the older version? Did Microsoft announce how long a period this update will go on?

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody_MVPAugust 14, 2016 at 1:29 am #1574774…I cannot be certain whether the Update Now button will install the Anniversary Update as I do not use it. But, I assume it will…
I used the Media Creation Tool on 3 August 2016 to download to an 8GB USB thumbdrive because I had two of my own systems to upgrade as well as being prepared to upgrade customers’ systems without having the large download each time. This was Version 1607 (OS Build 14394.10).

Click on the “Download tool now” button then save the tool somewhere you’ll be able to find it (it’s tiny so will download very quickly) then run the tool and choose whether you want to use a DVD or USB.

AskWoody_MVPAugust 14, 2016 at 3:45 am #1574787I did mine again yesterday following a factory reset back to Win 7 and I used the MCT to create a Win 10 disk to upgrade and the version is now 14393.51
Yes, there has been one-or-two “cumulative” updates since 14393.10.
Whoops! I just noticed 14394.10 in my #5 post (should have been 14393.10.

AskWoody LoungerAugust 18, 2016 at 2:18 pm #1575393One of my laptops updated to the anniversary update. I’m hoping Microsoft forgets to update the other two. The update screwed up the start menu, turned off file sharing, lost the homegroup, and eliminated most of my personal settings. If I could turn off windows updates like I’ve done with all previous versions of windows, I certainly would do it. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
