Where has autosave gone? (2000 SR2)

Hi all

I have a user that wants to ‘autosave’ every 10 minutes or so, so that if she accidentally closes the document, she doesn’t loose all her changes.

This is different to ‘autorecovery’ – because when you say ‘no’ to changes, the autorecovery document is deleted.

Has this pure ‘autosave’ feature been removed from word 2000?

To the best of my knowledge, yes, AutoSave has been removed from Word 2000.

Well, on my copy of Word 2000 I do the usual Tools => Options, click on Save, and as the final entry in Save options I observe:
Save AutoRecover info every nn minutes.
In fact the whole Save pane seems almost identical to that for Word 97.
Am I missing something?

If memory serves, AutoSave last existed in Word 7.0/95, and was replaced by AutoRecover in Word 97. As Jayden pointed out, the two options are similar but do have minor differences.

Hi Everyone:

AutoRecover & AutoSave are different terms for the same thing. In 6 & 7, it was called AutoSave. In 97 it was changed to AutoRecover. However, this feature only saved documents as a temp file that allowed you to recover a portion of the document if Word crashed.

Word never had a true AutoSave feature the way Excel does, where it asks you every X minutes if you want to save the document.
