where do I find custom dictionaries.
A user wants to use a medical dictionay to do a spell checker.
Any ideas

Generally custom dictionaries are built up by users. However, if there is a commercially available medical dictionary in any format, or even a glossary of medical terms, it can be converted into a custom dictionary because the custom dictionary is a simple alphabetically sorted list of words in an ASCII text file.

There are stand-alone spell-checker versions of a couple of the big medical dictionaries–Stedman’s Medical Dictionary (published by Williams & Wilkins) and Dorland’s Medical Dictionary (published by WB Saunders).

You can probably get them at a local bookstore or at Amazon. Sorry, I don’t know the prices. Be sure to say “Spell checker” and not “Dictionary,” or you’ll get something that tells you the definitions rather than checks the spelling.

Or you can probably contact the publishers directly (they should have 800 numbers and return privileges).

Hi Diana. I created a 82,961 word spell checker. I am not a programmer so it has to be installed as four files and activated via the Options dialog box. If your customer is interested have them contact me. I am willing to sell a copy to them. Fay
