One of our six-year-old HP ENVY desktops requires numerous Realtek drivers including drivers for:

    • Local Area Network,
    • RTL8xxx Bluetooth,
    • NIC, and
    • Card Reader.

Many of the Realtek drivers listed on the HP support website for the PC are four years old or older.

When we want to update the Nvidia graphic card driver, in the workstation, we simply go to the Nvdia support website and download and install the current driver.

For Intel drivers, in the same computer, we use the Intel Driver & Support Assistant to identify, download, and install current drivers.

Is there a similar tool available to help find Realtek drivers?

The Realtek website appears to have recently reorganized and I find very few drivers there, no automatic driver utility.

If security flaws in drivers are a major concern, Windows 11 virtualization security features (VBS) may provide extra security, confirm that memory integrity as well as core isolation are turned on.  https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/hardware-security/enable-virtualization-based-protection-of-code-integrity

are your HP ENVY desktop pcs running Windows 10 or Windows 11 (or perhaps both), Kathy?

and what are the model numbers of those HP ENVY desktop PCs?

We have a number of HP desktop computers – but the six-year-old workstation I wrote about in this topic is a HP ENVY Desktop – 795-0050, Product number: 3LA27AA#ABA running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit Version: 19045.4170.

You can find some Realtek drivers here

You have to be careful to check device version..

Realtek used to offer current drivers to the general public but they seem to have stopped in recent years. You need to go to the OEM now unfortunately.

Unfortunately, HP only makes Realtek “current” drivers available for a limited amount of time.

Our six-year-old HP ENVY Desktop – 795-0050 no longer receives Realtek updates via HP Support.

While an HP Z2 Tower G9 Workstation – Product number: 4Y0H6AV (purchased in November, 2022) is still receiving Realtek updates via HP Support.

So, the question now is can we install recently updated Realtek drivers available for the newer computer on the older, no longer supported, computer?

No OEM issues drivers for a 6 years old PCs.

The simple way to update is running device manager and select check for updates for each Realtek hardware.

      for a Realtek PCIe Local Area Network (LAN) Driver, latest one from HP is version 10.069.1119.2023 download executable from the sp151657 package {release notes for sp151657}

even though that 6-yr old HP ENVY Desktop is not listed on that package, that new Realtek LAN driver should work since it’s barely a “generic” driver

as for the Realtek Card Reader driver – check Device Manager (devmgmt.msc) as to what kind of “Card Reader” device you have, Kathy. is it “Realtek PCIe Card Reader” or the USB variety like either “Realtek USB 2.0 Card Reader” or “Realtek USB 3.0 Card Reader” > either one of those will be listed in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers section of Device Manager

Moderator Edit: to make it clear that link is a direct download of the driver package executable.

According to Windows 10 Device Manager, all of our Realtek drivers are up to date.

        Thank you

          you’re welcome Kathy.

although you did not specify whether your Card Reader device on your HP Envy desktop PCs is either a Realtek PCIe Card Reader or a Realtek USB Card Reader

my old HP pavilion a6230n desktop PC uses “Realtek USB 2.0 Card Reader” – listed in the Universal Serial Bus controllers section of Device Manager. ditto for my family’s old Dell Inspiron 620 desktop computer, also using “Realtek USB 2.0 Card Reader”
