Wheelmouse and the VBA editor (Access 2k)

Dear All

This may seem a little bit of an odd post, but how do I enable the wheelmouse for use in the VBA editor?? Every post I’ve found on the forum that refers to the wheelmouse is about turning it off!!!

While my desire to use the wheel in the VBA editor isn’t going to efffect my database performance I’ve nicely got used to being able to scroll up and down my Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc documents and miss the ability to skip from the bottom of a page of code to the top without moving my hand, just lazy I suppose!! So, any suggestions how I can save energy while in the VBA editor???

You’ll have to download and install a mouse driver that supports use of the mouse wheel in the Visual Basic Editor. You might try the IntelliPoint drivers from Microsoft – see here.

I think it’s pretty annoying too, I’m always scrolling the wheel in VB Editor out of habit and nothing happens…. I use a Logitech Optical MX mouse on my primary computers at work & home, though I have a MS Optical Mouse on my other home computer & the scroll wheel doesn’t work in VB Editor on that machine either….

Ah well, that puts the mockers on that idea, I’m not allowed to install software on my work PC, still the one I use at homw will be ‘wheely good’ as soon as I get in. I’ve got the MS driver as both mice are the MS variety, but our IT Dept subscribes to the no unecessary drivers rule and I’m not about to argue with them over it….

Dratted MS, I just ‘assumed’ it would work as it did in every other app I use…

PS – As test I installed MS “IntelliPoint 4.1 Mouse Software” provided on CD that came with mouse on the PC with the MS Optical mouse. Now the scroll wheel works in VB Editor . If you try to install this software on PC that has the Logitech “MouseWare” drivers installed, you are advised that you have to uninstall the offending non-MS software first so there will be no driver conflicts. Since I don’t want to uninstall the MouseWare (which works just fine) I did not test installing the MS software on PC with non-MS optical mouse.

PS – one final note, decided to go ahead & try installing the Intellipoint software on PC with Logitech optical mouse. As noted, the setup program uninstalled the existing software (MouseWare in this case), then installed the MS mouse software. After rebooting, the Logitech mouse now can scroll in VB Editor. So looks like anyone with this problem may have no choice but to install the MS IntelliPoint drivers to enable scrolling in VBE code window.
