• Whatsapp on a PC

I use whatsapp and find it handy to access it on my PC (W10).
Lately it has been reporting that it is out of date, so I uninstalled it and looked for the current version. The only one I could find was on the MS Store, so I installed that and used it to send a message, which went ok. However when I tried to access it again there was no shortcut to it, and I failed to find any listing in Program Files.
Obviously I don’t want to have to keep reinstalling it, so I searched for a desktop version but failed to find one I felt safe with.
    Any advice would be welcome.

Since you have installed it you can find it and create a shortcut to it as follows:

      Open a Run box (WinKey + R)
Copy and paste the following into the run box

      %windir%\explorer.exe shell:::{4234d49b-0245-4df3-b780-3893943456e1} /List

      Press the Enter key
This will display all apps installed on your PC including Microsoft apps that don’t appear in Program files.
Find your app in the alphabetical list, right click, select Create a shortcut. It will say a shortcut can’t be created there but will place the shortcut on the desktop.
You can move the shortcut to anywhere you want.

I just installed WhatsApp from Microsoft Store to Windows 11 and it got added to Recommended (Recently added) section of the Start menu, to All apps at W, and to Settings, Apps, Installed apps.

Microsoft Store apps are not listed at Control Panel, Programs & Features.

Thanks guys, I understand the situation now.
I’m still curious as to where the program files are stored.

What is simpler then searching for ‘WhatsApp’ using the free portable ‘Everything’ ?

I’m still curious as to where the program files are stored.

Microsoft Apps are stored in the Program files folder in a hidden folder called WindowsApps…usually at:

      C:\Program Files\WindowsApps

This is a hidden folder that you must have File Explorer set to show Hidden files/folders.  This is a system folder that you do not have permission to have access to, which mean it is best to leave it alone.

Since the WhatsApp Windows app wants lots and lots of (unnecessary) permissions, I stick with Whatsapp Web in combination with Ublock Origin. I have never ran into any problems this way.
