What’s the best free backup program?

I have a paid version of True Image 2010 on my desktop but I don’t think the lic will allow it to be installed on desktop in the other room.

I want to backup an image and restore an image if ness. and have a CD/DVD to boot from —- like acronis does but free.

I’m using EASEUS Todo free v.4.0.0.2 (NOTE: not the current version). Others are happy with Macrium free, though it doesn’t make differential
(or, I believe, incremental) backups.

I went to there page and the only thing was a new ver 6 todo and it was a trial….. so maybe they don’t offer free any longer.

The free versions of Easus Todo Backup, Paragon Backup & Recovery, and Macrium Reflect are all good and each has its proponents here in the forum.

You need to go to a site that archives past versions of files, such as FileHorse, to get the EaseUS Todo backup v. 4.0.0.2:

Having said that, I had no problem finding the current v.4.6 free on the website:

Macrium Reflect’s latest free version will allow for boot disk creation and also a USB bootable disk with a little extra work as well.

Jag, just be advised that many of the free apps lack some of the important features of the paid versions. The feature comparison forMacrium Reflect does show this difference. Look down through the list to see the differences.

My data is much more valuable than my computer, or a bunch of other things I own. Paying for backup software that does exactly what you want makes sense.

Remember this: There is no such thing as a free lunch.
However:
There are many “Free” software packages that are as good or even better than their for profit competitors. It may be true that some so called free software comes with extra baggage so do your homework. I have found that software from the “Open” systems is quite good and has decent help through online forums. One that come to mind: http://sourceforge.net/ there are other “Open Source” software communities available also.

Handy Backup 7 has both free and paid versions, it’s the best backup program I ever used.

It appears in reading the Handy Backup site the only version that includes Imaging is the professional version. Most of the products discussed in this thread include Imaging, even in their free versions.
