MemberOctober 14, 2020 at 5:00 pm #2304332I thought that all the new”i” gadget related announcements were made already in the September event and this one, in October, was going to be about the new macOS “Big Sur”, that is expected to be introduced this month, as well as on new Macs. But, according to Nathan’s comment, it has not been so. So this event seems curiously redundant to me.

OK, but what about Big Sur? I am much more interested in it, as I am not buying another Mac any time soon. So I expected it was going to get a place in an event this month and thought this was going to be the one. I want to know what Apple’s Tim Cook and Co. have to say about it when it is officially out, again most likely this month, no longer being a beta “work in progress” item, and then read the relevant commentaries of Mac users and other interested parties after the event. Big Sur has to be my next macOS, yes or yes, once I move away from Mojave, so I am really interested in it.

AskWoody_MVPOctober 14, 2020 at 10:25 pm #2304382Apple will either flat release it without an event (since WWDC already covered it, they could just flat out release it and say “it’s ready”), or they could wait and release it at the Apple Silicon Mac event and have a Big Sur/Apple Silicon Mac event together.
Unlikely, but they may not even have an Apple Silicon Mac event and simply release a Mac model with it.
I “may” wait and upgrade to Big Sur early December, which will give 11.0.1 (or more) a chance to release, plus I’ll be out of classes for the semester, so I’m not hitting my Mac with a major upgrade while in the middle of two research papers (probably the best solution). In the meantime, I’m downloading every app update to my Mac apps to get ready for Big Sur when it does release and I do upgrade.

It seems Apple will have a 3rd event this year, next month, for Macs…,

AskWoody_MVPOctober 15, 2020 at 5:05 pm #2304582I need to see if the HomePod mini is going to have the desk-damaging silicon ring under it the larger HomePod did. I was going to purchase the Pad and Quill leather coaster for the larger HomePod if I were to buy it. Now that I’m definitely going mini, if it’s immune from this issue, that’s another $20 I’ll save.
