Drew, I’m surprised no-one has answered you. The obvious response is “Google it”! Anyway, MS says:
“Anywhere access to cloud-based email, web conferencing, file sharing and Office apps at a low predictable monthly cost.”
So its aimed at business users primarily, I guess.

Yes, I was giving an answer not, seeking one. & yes, Office 365 is for businesses. We IT Pros have known about Office 365 for a very long time. It’s long been part of the BPOS Family. Promotion is being ramped up as we get past the beta stages. I am BPOS Certified… I don’t really need to Bing it but, thanks for the suggestion.

I was providing this info as some people were confused between Office 2013 and Office 365

There is going to be an Office 365 Home Premium version which will allow the Office apps to be installed on 5 PCs. Pricing have not been announced yet. See Office 365 home premium[/url] for the Microsoft take on it. See Preview Office 365 home premium[/url] for the Paul Thurrott take on it.

Hey All,

Looks pretty good. However, remember Norton Anti-Virus…Free signature updates forever. How long did that last once they had us hooked?
I hate to be so skeptical but I guess it comes with old age and having seen most of it before. MS, and other vendors, have been working on this whole SAS {software as service} for years. Get them hooked, yeah just like drug dealers, then keep raising the price {Symantec & McAfee for instance}. No more using Office 2003 until you can’t find a computer it will run on any more. Most importantly a nice continious revenue stream for MS. :cheers:

In fact, the news industry is doing the same, throwing up paywalls on newspaper sites that were free, after they used the sites as much as they could to attract readers. And the banks trying to charge for free debit card use. I have enough monthly bills already – the last thing I would ever want is a monthly bill for using something that I used to pay for once and it was mine forever. I simply don’t have the income to be able to afford it.

If you choose to upgrade to Office 2013 you will be able to get the desktop applications and not start any subscription. There are several factors to consider when thinking about a subscription. What is the subscription price? What does it include? How often do you upgrade (an Office 365 subscription includes upgrade rights to future versions)? What is the cost to upgrade without a subscription? How many PCs have Office on them (an Office 365 Home Premium subscription includes rights to install on 5 PCs)?

At initial investigation, this does indeed look like a great price. If someone were in the market for an upgrade, this does seem like a great solution. I have upgraded all our Office installations to Office 2010 (wife gets a huge discount at the University where she works) so for someone like me, it might not be the best option at this time.

I’ve been using Office 365 since October 2011 and I think it’s great. I don’t use the apps because I already have Office 2010 installed on workstation and laptop. For us its main benefit is Exchange Server. I like the idea of an enterprise level Exchange Server compared to what I could support in our home office. We also use Team Site and will probably start to use other features as we have the time and inclination to explore what’s there. We have two mailboxes (one for me and one for my wife) and the total cost is AUD15.80 per month, but that’s less than our previous mail solution. I had been planning to buy a Small Business Server for a year or so, but had been baulking at the cost and the infrastructure issues we’d face in our home office. Office 365 made instant sense and is a much better solution for us. I don’t have to worry about infrastructure, learning to setup and drive SBS, etc. We can leave home at the drop of a hat, as we had to do the week before last for a family emergency, and know that all our mail, reminders, appointments, etc. are available to us wherever we are.

We have a cable connection. Our cable ISP could not handle email address aliasing, so we used our old dial-up ISP to host our domain and handle our email.
On top of the cable connection, our cost was AUD21.00 per month for the email plus AUD250.00 per annum for the DNS hosting. I couldn’t work out how to keep the email service and change to a cheaper DNS host. For Office 365, I’ve changed the DNS hosting and our total saving is around AUD270.00 per annum.

That’s my experience. And it’s been a good one

Do some basic maintenance & clean-up on the machine; uninstall Office. Go grab the DL, again. From the saved location install it (again).

Of course, should not notice any such loss of performance.

Something seems very wrong there. I installed it, parallel to Office 2010, on a Core 2 Duo laptop, running 7 x86, which means it has only 2.9 GB of usable memory. Runs fine, although Outlook starts slow. No slowdowns whatsoever and my much is much slower the yours.

So, what specific slowdown did you experience? Doing what? In what circumstances? We really need to know more to be able to help effectively.

Thanks. Actually do maintenance weekly and did it yesterday. I do not want to loose office 2010 as I just want to try office 2013 at this stage so I am reluctant to uninstall office, which would be 2010.

It’s no big deal to remove & re-install Office BUT, you could, @ least, run the Repair on it. Do you know how?
