I answered a set of questions on Identifont and the closest match it could find was Ondine (URW)

Thanks Stuart…. had a look and kinda like that font [came across it in the chapter headings and on the top of every page of a book I recently had sent through the post – the attachment I sent was a photo I took of one such page.] I looked at the site you indicated BUT note that there is a charge for it so must keep looking for another similar to it on some freeby site. Cheers Dave.

Could also be Calligrapher Regular, but I cannot remember where I got the font.

AskWoody LoungerMay 2, 2009 at 6:57 pm #1159006Calligrapher Regular looks like a good free alternative.
It’s available from several sites, e.g. FontStock or 2-free.
Hi all… appreciate every response, will look at Calligrapher Regular as it appears a little more classy in emails than Arial, Bondini MT or Courier New and the like. Nearly 01.00 hours, must be lights out…. Thanks again Dave.

AskWoody LoungerMay 3, 2009 at 6:53 pm #1159083It’s a decorative font, based on the old uncial script (used in the Book of Kells, for example). I would only use it for titles and the like, not in the main body of a document or e-mail.
Thanks Hans….. that is exactly what it is used for in the book I mentioned, chapter titles and at the top of every page.
Right again as ever……. Cheers Dave.

I think it is hand-lettered. Each of the three lower-case ‘e’s has different proportions, the two lower-case ‘n’s have different proportions, and so on. The stroke widths are all over the map, and the same is true of the letter proportions. Try drawing boxes around the characters. That doesn’t mean it’s bad, but publication does require uniformity.

I’m not convinced. Dave said that he had taken a photo of the page, and I suspect that what you are seeing is just the result of each letter ‘e’ being viewed by the camera from a slightly different perspective, and the page not being completely flat.

Hi again. I suspect Ian is on to something as the paper back book is rather thick & difficult to keep flat as will be seen from the curve at the top. My initial question was sufficiently answered as I now have downloaded the font using one of the URL’s suggested. Thanks again for the various responses. Dave.

AskWoody LoungerMay 17, 2009 at 7:12 am #1160837Here is Harem.ttf:(I have no idea what became of the upper case alphabet toward the end in the sample, but you might have better luck in getting a freeware version of this than the URW).
Here is still more information to append: GoldenWeb claims to have it free (but there seem to be strings attached), and this is listed by Linotype, whose design I think it originally was, as an alias of Ondine, which I suspect is offered by URW under licence from Linotype (or vice-versa). Anyway, the ‘Ondine’ gang were right, but if you are looking for a free version try calling it Harem.

Thanks for the response Peter….. I Googled Harem.ttf: and see that the font mentioned is very much like Calligapher and it does not seem to be a free download so I’ll just use the latter which I have installed. Cheers Dave.
