(Edited by Tricky on 15-Aug-05 01:25. Made a correction to puzzle H. Original was unsolvable but it is fixed now.)

Clarifying note (just in case the picture isn’t clear) for puzzle A. This is a multiplication problem. Three digits multiplied by two digits equalling a 5-digit number. Only the first digit (4) for the top line is given. You are to use the remaining digits (0,1,2,3,5,6,7,8,9) to complete the puzzle…

      Have fun! cheers

        E) the line from groundhog day (Bill Murray) is:

        “I’m a god. I’m not the God… I don’t think. “

        h) There is either some “trick” I am missing or an error.

        1) the numbers add up to 71 so it is not divisible evenly in half.

        2) The puzzle could be to divide one of the 3 2-digit number in half making them 2 x 1 -digit numbers. Making a vertical line down between the 2 and 6 in 26 still is an odd number and gives 26 and 27 as the totals

        3) Assuming the “trick” is that all the 2 digit numbers are just “close together” and all represent single digits still totals 35 an odd number

        4) The only way I can get it to work (thugh it is unsatisfying) is to divide it so that the 5,9,26 are one one side and the 4,3,12,12 are on the other half and assume that the one half is 5,9,2,6 (not 26) = 22 and the other half is 4,3,1,2,12 (one is a 12 the other is a 1 and a 2) giving 22. I can see no real reason to think that one is a 12 and the other is a 1 and 2 other than to “solve the puzzle”.

        Am I missing something??

        I’ll have to do C:

        LOOK HANS NO MA

        A:

        402 x 39 = 15678
        495 x 36 = 17820

H.? Are we allowed to rearrange the relative spatial dispositions of the numbers?

I hope so. If we can we get my number “4” from post 508488

            bwaaah Skip H) – I goofed…

I hate it when that happens. The trick to the puzzle was to run a vertical line up through the 2 and 6 in 26. But I screwed up with one of the other numbers making the puzzle unsolvable. Sorry!

All the other puzzles were solved correctly. I didn’t think anyone would recall the line from Arthur, so I’m awarding the big choccy bar to Tim. And smaller (but just as tasty) choccy bars to Hans and Tony for their quick work of A and D (the ones I thought were the most challenging.

I feel just terrible for leaving Alan and Steve out of the choccy bar parade. If you’d just caught my mistake BEFORE I posted it… smile

Oh go on Ricky, Alan and Steve deserve a [choccy bar]

note We must ask Leif for a proper [choccy bar] smiley we seem to be using it quite a lot lately

            • #966359

I rarely eat choccy bars, but here is one.

            • #966391

I figured that splitting the 2 digit into 2 digits was the trick, but I couldn’t guess how. At least I was confused for a reason unrelated to my mistake and I can blame it yours smile

Thanks for the [choccy bar] yum

              Steve

I DEMAND my chocolate bar… size XL in compensation. That’s exactly the solution I had in mind when I asked the question, but the numbers didn’t add up properly. I was even trying for a line that also sliced a “1” vertically, to give two little “1”s, to make the censored thing work. frown

              Okay. Alright.
Here’s your choccy bar. And I’m thinking you should share. BTW, the puzzle is fixed now if you’d like to pretend you haven’t seen the solution and give it a go… smile
