Not sure which forum, moderators please move to appropriate

    – My free e-mail account was provided by Gateway ISP in 1999, then by Tiscali when they took it over a couple of years ago. (I paid BT for line time)

    – Have been able to send and receive via Outlook with no problems (Tempting fate here)

    – Have been able to access e-mail via the Tiscali website with few problems until this week. Website says I am logged in but I cannot get to the mailbox see only the log in box. This happens on any pc, any where. Even used our test pc that has no pop up blocker, firewall etc. Still no good.

In the browser address box it says http://www.tiscali.co.uk/login?d=gateway.net etc my user name error=error user invalid blah blah blah

After the 3 hour run around from Tiscali – as I do not have an account I pay for and the number they give for Gateway customers just rings before a recorded message kicks in and say all operators busy call back later, I used Outlook to retrieve all the received mail but will it possible to retrieve the e-mails I sent via web access?

I have just signed up for a googlemail address but have learned not to store stuff at web based mail.

    Any advice or recommendations.

As for paying for an account I don’t have broadband at home, don’t need it, don’t want it as I surf and download during working hours devil

I suppose it’s an obvious question, but… do you log in using a complete email address, username@domain.com? I wonder whether they have might have been transitioning from domain.com to newdomain.com over a long period of time and just turned off the old addresses? (Like the At Home, AT&T, Comcast transitions suffered by cable customers.) On the other hand, whatever you have in Outlook works, so…

Log in over the internet is e-mail address and password. When connecting at home via Outlook I have to dial up, use my usenamer which is a bizarre series of numbers and letters, then a password.

While using Outlook is fine, I can only do it at home as I rarely use my work e-mail to receive personal messages and access via the web was very convenient. Some messages need to remain private (like searching for a new job!) I have a lot of sent mail sitting on the webmail and e-mail addresses in the address book that I can’t get at and that is so frustrating.

I don’t suppose you asked Tiscali “technical support” whether there was a policy (accidental, of course!) of trying to get rid of old Gateway customers that didn’t bring them any income…?

PS I suppose the upside is that if you can’t get at the mail, then almost nobody else can…

Yes, the dial-up username often is quite different than the email username. It is the username you have set up in Outlook’s account settings that should also work on the web site.

I didn’t use my dial up username because it would never work to access the mail via the web. I had tried that in the past just to see if it would work.

I finally got through to Tiscali, just as I was about to hang up on the 50th ring, and they told me they sent out an e-mail to Gateway users saying that because of the new web interface they would have to use their dial up name. Tried it while the helpdesk were still on the line and it worked. But the poor guy on the help desk couldn’t explain why I never got the e-mail informing me of the change.
