    Hi,

I have a website that I would like to have as much visibility as possible since its selling a product. I don’t at this point want to invest in the cost per click plans that Google, Yahoo, Shopzilla etc. have as it can become very costly for a start up business wih little spare cash. Does anyone have any suggestions for a free or inexpensive method to increase visibility via the search engines. I’m using a 1and1 shop template and they provide csv and xml search engine feed info based on the items in in the website so I’m “assuming” that there must be search engines out there other than the “big” ones.

    Thanks,
    Leesha

      Hi Leesha

It is a difficult one as you need to get your site opened up to all search engine spiders so that they can index your site properly. You can start by getting a robots.txt file set up in the root folder.

Next is to get the website more coverage, the hit rates to my blog doubled over night by having links set in Twitter.

Check out http://www.pineberry.com/en/skills/seo/analysis-tool and see if your web page is search engine friendly. Try and use google analytics and create a google sitemap for a start. If your shop will output an xml feed take a look at google base. That should keep you busy for awhile. Good Luck

Thanks for the link! What a great guide. I had already done the google xml file so that is all set.
