Ok. Does anyone at all have a good place to where I can register a domain and host that domain? My self and a few friends are starting an online magazine (online until we can publish) for indipendant journalists. Basically I need a some place that I can register our .com site that will also host the site. I just took over this project from the previous person who has it all really screwy. He has the domain registered at one place then the host on a different place and it’s all just a hassle because to me it seems we are paying double the fee’s for that. Any suggestions on sites or anything would be great. Thanks in advance.

Actually, it’s not uncommon to have the domain and web hosting handled by different companies. I’ve always done things that way.

Although, I’ve noticed that some web hosts are starting to offer cheaper domain name registrations, perhaps to compete with several low-cost domain registrars.

One of the best deals I’ve seen is JodoHost. Their web hosting is a VERY good deal and they also register domain names. I’ve used them for several of my customers (and several of my own sites).

      Good luck!

Thanks Mark. I will check them out a little later today. I appreciate the suggestion. Any other suggestions are still welcome. Just doing a little research before I make the move. I do want to change hosts for sure though. Thanks.

It seems too cheap to be true, but http://www.1and1.com/%5B/url%5D offers $5/month hosting (Linux or Windows) and includes a domain registration in that price. It is a real company (big in Europe, new to North America).

          Hi Brandon,

I’ve used eBay to sign up for a couple of cheap web hosts recently, I’m in Oz but a quick check of eBay.com has a $15.99 per year as one of the offerings.
I have done a test of a cheapy ($20pa) vs a normal ($350pa) host and the cheapy showed up with better performance.
If it doesn’t perform, sign up for one of the others!!!

Thanks Neville. I’ll have to check it out. Most of everything I guess is just a matter of finding one I like and works perfectly for what I need it to do. Thanks for all the suggestions all.

I have just moved my web site to 1and1 and it was no problem. I am using a $9.95 a month package. The only thing I do NOT like, is their “WebCreator” software. If you use it, you are “locked” in using it and it’s extra upgrade, which I did try and removed real quick.

Are you using the Linux or the Windows package? For FrontPage users who haven’t upgraded, the Windows package looks like the way to go. Of course, maybe you’re just getting locked in to something else that way. laugh (We’re probably going to go with the Windows $9.95 pkg ourselves.)

I am using the Linux server package. I did NOT want to be lock in with FrontPage. Also the use of some of the other software that I want to think about learning, i.e. PHP, and etc..
But they both have their pluses and minuses.
