I have a very strange problem.
I don’t know if this is the proper forum but if not please move it to the right place. I think it is a web based Outlook problem. There is a Microsoft Outlook forum but I think that is the Outlook application, not the web based version.
I have a web based e-mail account with Outlook/Hotmail. I created an alias and deleted it about a year ago. I read that if an e-mail is sent to the alias after it is deleted, it is sent to the e-mail address who created the alias.
That seems to be working because I am getting e-mail sent to the alias e-mail from someone’s ebay account in the UK. I am in the US. I don’t think it’s a phishing e-mail. It seems legitimate.
Is it possible that someone in the UK created/reused my old alias e-mail address for his ebay account since I deleted it over a year ago? But e-mail is still sent to my e-mail address that created the alias.
I forwarded the e-mail to ebay’s spoof address in UK. All they have told me is the e-mail is legitimate. The e-mail was about a listing of a product on ebay for this alias e-mail address.
Could there be a bug in the deleting process of an alias e-mail? This could allowing someone else to create/reuse the same alias and any e-mail sent to that alias is sent to me instead of the actual alias address. Or maybe email is sent to both locations.
What I then did was go to ebay uk and enter in the alias e-mail to request a new password (to claim I forgot it). They sent me a temporary password to the alias email. I signed in, with the alias e-mail address, with that password and created a new password. I logged out and then logged in to verify it works.
Last week I get an email to the alias to confirm a password was changed but not by me. I tried logging back in with the password I created and it no longer worked. The owner of the ebay account probably requested a new password. Where his temporary password was emailed to, I don’t know. Or maybe it was done over the phone. But somehow the password was changed.
Is there anyway that Microsoft can be contacted so see if such a problem like this can happen and fix it or at least report such a problem?
Is there anything else I can do to fix this strange problem?
