    Hi everyone.

I’m using Excel 2002. I have a number of pie charts with a lot of information, so the charts get crowded. I spent a long time moving around the labels and leader lines so that everything is just right. When I try to update my values, however, the labels and lines go haywire and end up overlapping each other or moving off the screen (i.e. I believe they are returning to their original positions). Is there a way to lock/freeze the data label positions in my charts so that when I update the values, the labels and leader lines will not move?

    Thanks a lot.

My first suggestion would be: don’t use a pie chart.
If you have more than two or perhaps three slices, it’s 99% probable that it’s the wrong chart type, especially given your current problem. At a guess I’d say a bar chart would be better, but without seeing the data it’s impossible to be sure. (you may enjoy Jon Peltier’s blog post here.)
