I wish to have 2 pages within a document with a watermark, or a washed out graphic. I have tried all sorts of ideas but have spent too much time on this. Has anyone any suggestions?

The Word Help on Watermarks gave me some suggestions! Have you already been there?

Yeah. Been there, no joy. Also did a Google search on the web for suggestions.

You must put the two pages in a separate section. You haven’t told us if the two pages of the document are the first two, or somewhere in the middle, or the last two. Depending on this, you need to insert a next page section break after, before and after, or before the two pages (Insert | Break…)
When you have done that, select View | Header and Footer… Use the Show Next and Show Previous buttons on the Header and Footer toolbar to visit all sections, and unlink the header of the second section from the header of the first section, and that of the third section (if you have one) from that of the second section.
          Close the header.
Click somewhere in the section with the two pages that should display a watermark.
Select Format | Background | Printed Watermark, and fill in the dialog.

            Hans thanks for that

The pages concerned are 3 & 4. I tried, again, inserting page breaks before and after and checking that the headers were not linked but the watermark, when applied, is on all 6 pages.

You don’t need page breaks, you need SECTION breaks.
Then you need to clear the “same as previous” setting on all the headers.

              Thanks Stuart

They were Next page breaks that I inserted. Tried again still no joy.

I am trying to insert a WMF file. Shouldn’t make any difference but? I would post the document but because of other graphics it is a bit large.

I should always remember to test things, even if they seem simple. The instructions were not complete. What we missed is that the Background > Printed Watermark command will put the watermark in every header, so we needed to delete the extra ones.

              • Insert a section break at the end of page 2
              • insert a section break at the end of page 4
              • View header and footer
              • Clear the link to previous on all headers in the document
              • Format > Background > Printed Watermark and add the watermark you want. This will put the watermark in every header
              • View header and footer
              • Navigate to the sections where you don’t want the watermark and delete it
              • Close header and footer view

              Stuart,

Thanks for this essential addition. I should have tested it in its entirety before posting. blush

              Thanks Stuart .

Works a treat when you delete the obsolete headers. Answers questions I have had in the past as well! !
