Hello Everyone, I think this question has been asked before, but how do you do a watermark./bookmark. I know how to do it in word, but not excel.

Excel doesn’t have watermarks. You can set a background picture for a worksheet, but it will not be printed. Suggested workarounds are to print pages with only a background picture (from Word, or whichever application you prefer), then print the worksheet(s) on the pre-printed paper, or to paste worksheet tables into Word and print from there. Some printers also allow setting a background picture.

Bookmarks are something entirely different. What functionality of bookmarks would you like in Excel?

Thanks Hans. I am actually looking at watermarks or something similar. Do you know of a way I can have something appear in a cell, but still be able to put something in. For example. cell A1. On the background, I want it to say company name here and the employee can put the company name. I really don’t care if the work company name appears as long as the input from the employee is printed.

Try one of the following – it’s not exactly what you ask but it may serve your purpose:

          1) Validation
          – Select cell A1.
          – Select Data | Validation…
          – Leave the first tab unchanged (it should say “All values”).
          – Activate the Input Message tab.
          – Enter a title and an instructive message to be displayed when the cell is selected.
          – Click OK.

          or

          2) Comment
          – Select A1.
          – Select Insert | Comment…
          – Type an instructive message.
          – Click outside the comment when done.

Thanks to both. I think Hans Validation approach should do fine. Thanks again.

              Hi,

I have had some success placing a picture in the header of the sheet in page setup. The picture will print behind the data. It is just difficult to place and size the picture. It only prints for the sheet it is set for.

I have two macros (see attached) , one is called “RubberStamp” and the other is “RemoveStamps”. “RubberStamp” will ask you for text that you want for a watermark and “RemoveStamps” obviously removes the watermark. This is only for things like “Confidential”, “Copy”, “Draft” etc.

              Linda,

              Nice convenient solution.

Thanks to you both. By the way Carla, are you doing any more excel VBA training. I need a refresh course from the one you did in Oct/Nov last year. Talk to you later. Jose

In addition to Hans’ comments some other workarounds are posted in watermarks in Excel? (Office 2000)
