They have to catch up with latest day of April, otherwise the “April 2018 Update” label would be silly then 🙂

My grandma uses a Windows 10 PC. Let’s see what she deals with in every “upgrade and / or update”.

      – Updates take connection speed and plumb it.

      – Makes a very good and powerful PC to behave like a tortoise.

      – Can be big and messy with the system.

      – If you disable or uninstall certain apps and options, they revive miraculously in every upgrade. So, you repeat your tunning work everytime.

      – My grandma uses Chrome, every upgrade breaks it and I have to reinstall it… Nothing happens to Edge though. Just “a coincidence”, of course.

      – Sometimes similar thing occur to Avast and other programs (or “apps”).

And I can go on and on. The “automated” Windows paradigm is far from being a reality. In fact, Windows 7 was less troublesome and I could choose perfectly when to update it (always at night of course, without disturbing anyone).

For now, I disabled updates (I think) with some of the external techniques available, and I will enable them only when I need to use them.

Thanks Microsoft, your Windows as a “service” is very convenient for my grandma…

The exact opposite happens with my machine – Chrome is fine after the update, Edge breaks!  For the last month or so, I’ve completely given up on it.  Chrome, Firefox and (dare I say it) IE are the browsers I use in that order of preference.

We all get the same 24 hours. And now, more than ever, it seems like it’s never enough. People feel more overwhelmed than ever before and pretty much all of us would love more time – not necessarily time to do more, but time to do what we love. At Microsoft, we want to help you do just that.

Yeah, we for sure needs more time to do what you love… of course we’re more overwhelmed than ever before.

The “we”s and “you”s just not mean the same for you and me.

A bit puzzled by this though:

The April 2018 Update will be available as a free download beginning Monday, April 30.

Does that mean I can upgrade my Windows 7?

If you manually go to Microsoft update it will kick the detection.

      Specifically:

The April 2018 Update is available today if you go to Windows Update and manually check for updates. “

So all we gotta do is avoid going to Windows Update otherwise 1803 update kicks in to put it simply. Then when May 8th comes around, WE HIDE THE update when it officially appears before us on WUHide with the may patches. 🙂 THAT WAY NO Feature 1803 if it’s hidden, no way it can install and update 1709 users to 1803.

That’s what I thought too, about 1709, until one day I booted up my desktop and 1709 started downloading and installing. Remember, if you use WIN 10: “We are WaaS, you WILL be assimilated.”

Interestingly, ‘Timeline’ was not enabled after the upgrade from 1709 at my end. At least one thing less to disable… On the other hand, cmd/PS shortcut icons containing custom settings got replaced during the upgrade. Sure enough, some IE settings (i.e. cookies) got a clean reset again — after they got it right the last two upgrades. It’s remarkable that the Microsoft folks are still ‘experimenting’ with settings they flip-flopped quite a few times by now. So what, Microsoft? Light on or off?

This isn’t software management, it’s damage control.
