Since updating my iPhone SE2 and iPad Gen 9 to iOS/iPadOS 16.5.1 (c)…

I can no longer take a screenshot on either device and forward it via email to myself. It no longer works.

The process goes through all the normal stages, including the penultimate ‘Choose size’ dialog… but no matter what size or email address is chosen… nothing happens at all. No ‘error’ notifications on either iPhone or iPad.

      Rick,

I just tried this and it worked on my iPad 16.5.1.(c).
However, it took a bit of time to work over to my Outlook on Windows.
Note: Don’t know if it makes a difference or not but I used CMD+Shift+3 to take the screen shot. I never could get it done with the buttons!

May the Forces of good computing be with you!

RG – I haven’t tried it that way round.

I was trying to send a screenshot from my iPhone (power button + home button together) to capture a screenshot. That continues to work, capturing the screenshot automatically to my iPhone’s photo cache. I can see the screenshot.

However, if I try forwarding the screenshot it makes all the same indications as usual… but actually does nothing, irrespective of the email target.

I only use iOS’ built-in Mail app, no third-party email client like MS’ Outlook. Mail has worked to connect to my ISP’s email backend for years.

Admittedly my ISP has been  making changes recently to its backend infrastructure recently (leaving huge swathes of the UK without phone/broadband access) but those glitches are now a week old or more. I have no idea what’s now happening.

The ONLY recent change I have made is to upgrade my iOS/iPadOS devices to 16.5.1 (c).

… and now, forwarding an internally stored screenshot from iOS via email to my ISP’s email backend for forwarding to my device’s usual two client device no longer works at all.

Somewhere along the line the process has been broken and I’m currently at a loss how to fix it.

EDIT: I’ve just tried the old ‘power off completely then power on again’ process and I can now hear the usual ‘whoosh’ as the email is (supposedly) sent… yet still no email+screenshot arrives.

        Hope this helps…

Thanks for the heads up. Emailing screenshots work fine on my iPhone 13 with Gmail. Didn’t try Apple Mail. I’m also on iOS 16.5.1 (c)

I have an iPad Air 5 (5th Gen) and it is updated to iPadOS 16.5.1 (c).

I have taken a screenshot by swiping diagonally upward from the lower left-hand corner, have tapped on the Share icon, have tapped on the Mail app icon, have entered my ISP email address in the ‘To’ line of the Mail app, and then have sent it. I hear the ‘swoosh. I didn’t get any kind of “Choose size” dialogue box, though.

The screenshot then shows up in the Mail app on the iPad and it also shows up in my email account at the URL of the ISP provider. The screenshot is also in my iPad’s photo cache.

In other words, everything is working as I expected.

In other words, everything is working as I expected.

Well, everything works as expected when taking a screenshot and sending it via the Share icon to my e-mail via the Mail app.

However, today I discovered that if I select a photo from the photo cache, tap the Share icon, tap on the Mail app icon, enter my ISP email address in the ‘To’ line of the Mail app, and then send it, I do NOT hear the ‘swoosh’. The email with the photo does not land in my e-mail and there is no record in the Mail app ‘Sent’ folder of its having been sent.

I tried it again today with a screenshot (like I did yesterday) and again the screenshot got sent. No change there.

Seems strange that the result of sharing/forwarding a screenshot vs a photo from the photo cache would yield different results.

If I do this on my old iPad (an Air 2) update 15.7.7, there is a ‘swoosh’, it lands in my e-mail, and there is a record in the Mail app ‘Sent’ folder.

I use double tap on my iPhone to capture screen shot saving to photos.
I can send that photo to any Gmail address including myself (I don’t use Apple mail).

Just now did a diagonal swipe to get a screenshot, tapped the Share icon and sent it to my gmail account, came through fine.

I called Apple about this and learned that the photo I was trying to send to my email was a LIVE photo, which can’t be sent via the Mail app, unless there is an additional step taken – either #1 or #2.

#1 – In the photo cache, first turn off the LIVE attribute of the photo before sending it.
        LIVE-off
#2 – Before selecting the Mail app, change the Option to ‘Individual Photo’

That’s interesting. Thanks for the heads up. I don’t normally use “Live” photos and when I do unintentionally I duplicate the photo as a “still”. But I’ll keep that in mind.

I did the update to 16.5.1(c) and I’m fmrooping calles, calls won’t go through it keeps saying dialing but never connects. When I make a call it’s going to vm also my iMessages are not sending. They turn green instantly

      • #2574936

iMessages (blue) turning green, i.e. SMS, are often an account issue. Try signing out of your Apple account, power off your iDevice, power it back on again then sign back in again to your Apple account.

Update: Well, the ‘screenshot forwarding’ issue is resolved on both my iPhone and iPad.

I tried another ‘power off/power on’ cycle today and suddenly my laptop’s webmail inbox was full of screenshots that had obviously been queued somewhere (iPhone?).

I checked sending a test screenshot from my iPad and that worked too… even though I didn’t carry out a ‘power off/power on’ cycle

Many thanks, @WCHS, for the info about changing ‘Live’ photos to static. It didn’t apply to my screenshot issue but it’s useful info to know.
