AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaa. What the heck is this? A friend sent me an AVI file that supposedly runs fine on a WinME machine. I have Win98SE and can’t find the correct decoder. Tried RealPlayer, QuickTime, IrfanView with all plug-ins, WindowsMedia (7.1) and CompuPic. Forget it. I can’t even locate what company has the VQC2 format or whatever. Help!

According to View Quest it’s their proprietary data format for storing images created on their camera. Your friend should be able to save the images in a standard jpeg or gif format for you.

Grrrrrr. Why do companies try to come up with their own “standards” ??? Yeah, it took AskJeeves to find even the name of the company. I was hoping they distribute their codec for viewing, but no… The problem is the video was a demo that already happened…so can’t redo. I’m trying to figure out how to install the codec on my machine…I’m better set up to convert if need be. Any ideas on forcing a codec install?

          For the benefit of others:
I downloaded the update to their hardware drivers to get VQDECODE.DLL (attached). Using MSCONFIG, went into System.ini, Drivers32, and added the entry VIDC.VQC2=VQDECODE.dll
Put VQDECODE.DLL in your system directory, reboot, and it works. bravo

You can use BBCodes to format your content.
Your account can't use all available BBCodes, they will be stripped before saving.
