I am looking for software that will allow me to take mp3 music and place voice over from a mic.

I have no experience in this area and may be stating my requirement in the wrong way so ask the questions that might make what I wish to do clearer.

Boy, this may take me some time, so I post only to say “I’m looking…” while I search my hard drive or the web. A few years ago, I remember just such a piece of software that would let you “mix” two audio sources into one. Said another way, it would let you “play” an audio file with one software program while the program was recording from another source, like a microphone. I’ll start looking…

You could try Multitrack Studio Lite or Acoustica Mixcraft

Bingo, I think Stuart’s hit the nail squarely. It was this thread from a couple of years ago that I had in mind: post 489,663.

Please note that I think the second of Stuart’s links above is not in the referenced thread, so you might want to check it out too.

You can also record anything going through your sound card with Audacity. You should be able to play the mp3 and input from mic at the same time and record it as one music file.

Thank you everyone, I now have a lot to learn.

I have taken down the various recommended software and over the next few days I have my work set out for me.

        Thank you
