Isn’t anybody interested in Vista patches? All I see mentioned are XP patches. Is anything “Vista” green?

Patch reliability is unclear, but widespread attacks make patching prudent. Go ahead and patch, but watch out for potential problems. |

AskWoody MVPMarch 28, 2007 at 1:10 am #1058064What Vista patches do you mean? If you have the default settings for Windows/Microsoft Update patches will be applied automatically. If you wish to see if any patches have been installed go to Control Panel | Security | Check for Updates. Then click on View Update History. If you mean something different be more explicit.

AskWoody LoungerMarch 28, 2007 at 10:13 am #1058127I am thinking the poster is referring to the Windows Vista for dummies book, which tells the reader that you can find out if it is safe to download the update on this site. The book also tells you that it is not very wise to allow Vista to automatically update itself, since this could cause problems when the patch turns out to be junk.
I am also confused as to why all the patches in the MS Patch reliability ratings link have only XP related patches, as I am now running Vista.

AskWoody LoungerMarch 28, 2007 at 12:34 pm #1058167Thank you “J”!! But, just in case it still isn’t understood… There is an option at the top of this window which is “Microsoft Patch Reliability Ratings”. If you go there, you only see comments regarding Windows XP. As J stated, if you read the “Way Cool” Vista for Dummies book written by Woody, you would expect to see information regarding patches put out for Vista.
What triggered the question was a patch, actually 3 patches, that were ready to be applied yesterday. I put in two that were security oriented, but waited on the third until I came to this site to see what the comments were. Hmmmm – no comments at all…

AskWoody LoungerMarch 28, 2007 at 1:39 pm #1058186OK, it becomes clearer now. If you visit Woody’s Lounge using the link on AskWoody.Com, you have an extra bar at the top (see screenshot). Most people here come to the Lounge directly, so they don’t have that extra bar – hence the confusion.
Although Woody’s Lounge is funded by Woody Leonhard, it is run entirely separately from AskWoody.Com. The moderators and admins of Woody’s Lounge have nothing to do with the “Windows & Office News” and “Patch Reliability Ratings” sections of AskWoody.Com. You might contact Woody through the Contact page.
