• View open files (Microsoft Window XP)

I’m looking for some type of addin or option I can activate in either Windows or Office that would allow me to view all files that are open and being able to switch between them by 1 click of the mouse.

For instance, if I have 5 different Excel files open. Instead of going up and clicking ‘Windows’ to view and select the file I would like to see, you could have a pane open that displays all open files along with allowing you to select which one you want to view.

    Drew

Well, this is not exactly what you are looking for but it might help until you find it. I use Taskswitch, the unofficial alt-tab replacement Powertoy from Microsoft. It allows you to cycle through all your open apps by pressing alt-tab, but unlike the OEM alt-tab native to XP, this has a preview pane.

I just tried using the mouse to select and it works too – but seems clumsy.

MS Powertoys were written by MS programmers but are not officially supported by MS – TweakUI and Cleartype Tuner are also great.

Since you’re mentioning 5 Excel workbooks, you may not know that CTRL + TAB will cycle through all open Excel workbooks. (For some reason, I could not readily see this in the Keyboard Shortcuts section of Online Help in Excel 2003.) HTH

Thanks. This is something I already use though.
When comparing many workbooks, it gets confusing using cntr-tab. Sometimes I wont recongnize the tab in the workbook right away. Having the list already open (and viewable) would work out better for me (something similar to the pane that opens when selecting File-New in Excel). The biggest programs that I have this problem with is Excel and Adobe (viewing upto 10 component datasheet).

As this thread does not specifically focus on the Microsoft Office range of products, it is more suited to the Software Finds and Wants Forum. Accordingly, I am moving it over there.
