Anyone ever encounter a display that decides to rotate 90 degrees? I don’t know of any special software or other causes for this but this was reported today but before I could remote into the box or stop by the area the problem corrected.

I am still waiting for info such as was the PC rebooted prior to this condition, did a patch come down, was the PC rebooted to fix the display or did it just return to normal on its own.

Anyone encounter such behavior?

Some video cards include the option to rotate the display which can be activated by using a shortcut key combination.

Many video cards/video drivers support rotating the screen image, and often there is a shortcut key combination for this. Perhaps the user inadvertently pressed this combination?

For anyone who may be still interested, the shortcuts are:

Ctrl+Alt+Up arrow gives the correct (landscape) orientation (nominally “normal” to this explanation)
Ctrl+Alt+Left arrow causes left display edge become bottom edge (rotates display 90 degrees from “normal”, to the left)
Ctrl+Alt+Right arrow causes right edge becomes bottom edge (rotates display 90 degrees from “normal”, to the right)
Ctrl+Alt+Down arrow causes top edge becomes bottom edge (upside down).

From my experience these are absolute, i.e. the left and right arrow do not rotate the screen by 90 degrees each time they are used.

I’m sitting in front of an HP1730 monitor attached to an HP Compaq Desktop.
The Ctrl-Alt-Up and Ctrl-Alt-Down function as you state.
The Ctrl-Alt-Left and Ctrl-Alt-Right fail to function as you state. (Not your fault!).

The monitor actually swivels, and I’d love to try this.
Have you any other suggestions/tips for effecting a 90/270 rotation?

P.S. I found this tip but I don’t see any “Rotation” on my tabs. I am in a locked-down site.

The shortcut keys (if any) depend on the video card+drivers, not on the monitor.
Activate the Display Properties control panel.
Activate the Settings tab.
Click the Advanced button.
There’s probably a tab for the video card/driver (usually the last tab).
Rotating the image and associated shortcuts can probably be found there.

The attached screenshot shows the deplorable state of affairs at the client site ( immediately below the impressive standards set my my home office.)

Sorry, I forgot all about this as I found the answer quickly. The Intel graphics software had the short cuts in their menus.
