I’ll be soon installing a Gainward Geforce 4 Ti 4200. I’ve already downloaded the Nvidia 30.82 drivers. After doing the usual uninstall of old drivers and replacing the video card, should I install the CD software first and then update the drivers, or can I directly install the 30.82 drivers after replacing the card? In other words, will the CD install something needed that the drivers alone wouldn’t?

You shouldn’t have any problems installing the latest drivers. Since it’s a Gainward card you may want to see if they have their own revision of the reference driver set, which could enable additional features – in either case, the drivers from the manufacturer’s website are those that I use in every case except for Soundblaster cards, which require a CD – and tell you so.
