    Hi

Not sure if this is a Vista, printer or Powperpoint problem but here goes.

I’ve suddenly (last week or so) started to find that Powerpoint presentations are
taking ages to print on my printers (I have tried on two different pcs and two different
laser printers both of which used to be extremely fast and which are still fast with
other forms of document such as Work, pdfs etc).

Nothing has changed to my knowledge in the printers or pcs. If I save it in Powperpoint
2003 mode and print from an old 2003 suite I have on a third pc everything is back
    to superfast!

Odd…..can anyone help? I’ve tried swtiching off background printing which makes
    no difference.

Each page prints and then there’s about 2-3 mins till the next one!! A pain when
I’m trying to print docs of around 20 pages!

Thanks for any help or ideas.

    Gary

This sounds like a driver issue. Did you upgrade the printer drivers perhaps?

If the laser printers are connected to the network (instead of locally to a USB or LPT port), you may be able to speed up printing by modifying the network port settings on the system(s) (print server?) to which they are connected. My guess is the ports are currently configured for “RAW” printing instead of “LPR”. If you change these settings from RAW to LPR, the printer will handle a larger part of the print task. Click “File”, “Server Properties…” in the Printers applet to configure these settings. Select the port you wish to modify on the “Ports” tab and click “Configure Port…”.

There is a catch, though: you’ll need to know the queue name for LPR printing. For Xerox it’s usually lp (no capitals, this is case-sensitive), for Hewlett Packard it’s (oddly enough) raw. I suppose you can find the necessary settings for your printer’s make in the user manual.

How large is your file and is the slide background a new one that you just started using?

Gary, I’d like to see you print that slide deck to Acrobat and then print to your printer from the PDF file. Does that make a difference? Is the printing to PDF slow? How about the printing from Acrobat to your printer? Those results would go a long way toward telling us where the bottleneck is.
