I am confused. Would someone give me a chronological listing of the versions of Office, starting with Office 97. I see references to Word 2000. To what Office does that belong? The same goes for Windows. Yes, I feel dumb.

    I use Windows 95 and Office 97.

No need to feel dumb. If you want dates, I can’t provide them… however
      Office 97
      Office 98 (Mac)
      Office 2000
Office XP (individual apps referred to as 2002)

And to add to the confusion, those versions were:

        Office 97: Office 8.0
        Office 2000: Office 9.0
        Office XP: Office 10.0

I haven’t been on a Mac in years, so maybe Office 98 was Office 8-5/8 grin

Word 98 on the Mac would be the equivalent of Word 97.

Word 2001 on the Mac would be the equivalent of Word 2000.

Thanks. What are the differences between Professional and Normal versions? I believe that Windows has the same distinctions with a Professional and Normal version. What is that about?

Each Suite, Office XP Professional Special Edition, Office XP Professional, Office XP Standard, and Office XP Developer, has different items included.

Go to Choose Your Suite Which One Is Right for You? for the item break down.
